Sunday 17 September 2006 1pm
Tadworth v Old Suttonians. This was ths last match at Tadworth for this season. Old Suttonians I think won the toss, and posted 190 for 6 after their alotted 40 overs. In reply we were on target to win, but some in different shot selection saw us all out 19 runs short of the total with 23 balls left!!. I batted 3 today and was looking in good touch for my 24 until I "bellied" one on to the stumps. My bowling was good 2 wickets for 24 runs off nine overs. 24 runs in debt with my bowling and 24 runs in credit with the bat - a first ?

Saturday 16 September 2006 1pm
Tadworth v Graveney. A regular friendly fixture. Today both captains decided on 40overs each (like last week at Salfords CC). Not sure who won the toss but Graveney batted and put 226 for 5 on the board. In reply the required run rate was 5.65 per over and so heads down job needed. We past the Graveney total with 7 balls to spare, and I hit the winning runs (22 not out). Tim Bennett batting at 3 batted brilliantly most of the time but was bowled on 130 when the game was won bar the shouting, thanks to Tim the total was past and a win.

Sunday 10 September 2006 1pm
MCC - (Mynthurst CC) v Wibbandune. The second MCC I will have played for, honest. The first was of course Microsoft Cricket Club where I was captain, now you know. A good debut, with 2 wickets and a 42 not out with the bat. 35 Overs to each team with the opposition batting first and posting 192. Mynthurst CC were close at 160 all out with 6 balls remaining.

Saturday 9 September 2006 - 1pm
Salfords CC v Tadworth CC. A sublime win for Tadworth, in this Pro-Am 40 match!! 40 overs a side Tadworth Batted first and posted 263 off their 40 overs. Craig Stevenson 145 with the bat. I was 24 not out batting No.6. And changed the game with the
"catch of the season" (ok I say so myself) and a second catch. Salfords were 80 for 1 at one stage and 106 all out. Proving that Cricket is the greatest game in our universe?

Tour the Brit OvalWednesday 6 September @ The Brit Oval
To Play some cricket.
Well I did play at the Brit Oval. Not out with the bat ( I will take that :-), and two wickets, one catch and I made a run out in the field, a good days play?

Sunday 3 September 2006 1pm
Tadworth v Coldharbour. Lost after we batted first and did not post enough on the board. I bowled ok 10 overs for 33 runs with no wickets, one dropped catch at mid off.

Sunday 3 September 2006 **10am**
Charity Walk @ Tadworth CC - in aid of the British Heart Foundation and Tadworth CC Colts.

Saturday 2 September 2006 1pm
Our Last Surrey Downs League Match. Tadworth v Westcott. Cancelled but play for Tadworth 1st Xi and bowled 8 overs 3 for 25, should of only 17 but two fielding incidents meant the ball reached the bonuday via one of our players :-) Winning Draw for Tadworth 1st Xi.

Wednesday 30 August 2006 6-8pm
Coaching @ Sutton CC. Around 12 Colts, with net practise with shot selection, head and feet all undelined with this the last colts coached session of the 2006 summer.

Tuesday 29 August 2006 6-8pm @ Nutfield CC
Coaching one, and a net session for me, bowling and batting. Four attended and coaching of one adult, and pointed out 2 or 3 things I felt needed attention with his batting - strokes and footwork on the offside.

Sunday 27 August 2006 1:30pm
Tadworth v Shooters Hill. Lost in a "pro-40" i.e. 40 overs to each team. Only one wicket for me, and 20 not out batting six.

Saturday 26 August 2006 - 1:30pm
Surrey Downs League Match, Claygate v Tadworth. We lost the toss and were asked to bat, if I won the toss I would of asked Claygate to bat. We reached 152 for 8 off 48 overs which was 20-30 runs off what I felt we needed on a green track. In reply Claygate stuggled with their top 4 batsman back in the pavilion with only 40 off 18 overs, on the board. Sadly we did not continue the form and some cricket luck went to the Claygate batsman who reached 152 for 6 with 3 overs to go - and a 4 scored with 17balls left in the match. Some excellent bowling by me and Brian Chalkly set up a great contest - Claygate at one point thought they had lost it.

Friday 25 August 2006 6-8pm
Coaching @ Tadworth CC. Presentations and a bbq see you there. The last night and up to forty youngsters were keen. 3 sessions were run around the outfield, my session was the older ones although with fourteen and ages from 9-13 it was interesting lets say - mixing a hard  and soft ball but I did it !!. Finished with a match for all using  a soft ball. Certificates were presented to all colts who attended.

Monday 31 July 2006 6-8pm
Coaching @ Sutton CC.
Senior Colts - Under 12's (school year 7) and older. Eight 12/13 years olds. Nets with batting again a priority. Again watching their foot movementn or lack of and encouraging shot selection for each ball that is delivered by their peers.

Sunday 30 July 2006 - Mynthurst CC - Tournament - 6 a side, from 10am. Asked to Umpire. I will be there as soon as I can after Horley CC. An excellent day, and as always my umpiring was tested, although - decision made, all players should respect the umpires and there decision is final,. It was a 6...

Sunday 30 July 2006 10am - Horley CC - Invited to see the colts I coach in action and it is their last match. Horley CC batted first and amased 109 off 20 overs not enough some were saying but its Cricket I said. In rely 57 all out, plenty of runs, due to all the Horley players. Well played moves you tosecond in the league, and excellent finish, Capel 1st, Horley 2nd Reigate Priory 4th ?

Saturday 29 July 2006 - 2pm
Surrey Downs League Match - Tadworth v Nutfield. Won the toss and elected to bat first on a Tadworth track that was for all batters. Sadly we only posted 161 not enough about 40-50 short. Nutfield won by 7 wickets. I bowled ok - 9 overs 1 for 24 ( 6 runs off my last over) batted for 53mins for 38 !! (Yes 53mins a proper scorer this week - so thank you to her.)

Friday 28 July 2006 6-8pm
Coaching Colts @ Tadworth CC. All the older colts this session. About 10 majority around 12 years old with one nearly 10. Nets practise in two nets - one net with a hard ball and of course all the protection gloves pads etc. and in the second net - practise all those shots using a tennis ball. 6 or 7 repetitions of each shot, front foot off drive, front foot on drive, back foot defensive, back and across "cut" shot - but ensuring full face of the bat hits the ball - i.e. no edge, and to finish a pull shot.

Thursday 27 July 2006 6-7:30pm
Coaching @ Horley CC.
14 colts this week, all around twelve years old. Batting - once again a session dedicated to what to do with each ball, and to try an encourage good hitting and none in the air - sound familiar? A batsman should always reduce the chances of been out - catches is of course just one of many!!

last session although if there is enough interest - I will attend next week.

Wednesday 26 July 2006
Coaching @ Sutton CC - cancelled due to the Surrey 2nd Team playing a match here.

Tuesday 25th July 2006 6pm
Children's Hospice Service - CHASE 6 a side Cricket Match between two Cricket Loving Horley Pubs:-
The Farmhouse v The Bull
.  All in the biggest pub garden in the world at the Farmhouse of course. The Farmhouse are due a win this year!!
in aid of
CHASE and the Ben Hollioake Fund.

As predicted an awesome win for the Farmhouse. The Farmhouse were asked to bat first and put 90 runs on the board off just 10 overs. The Bull in reply could only post 50 runs, so for the first time in a few years the Farmhouse had a positive score. Their second innings achieved 72 runs so the bull needed 113 in in their second innings to win. I posted 26 (retired) in the first innings, and only 8 in the second innings, but the whole team had a bat. My bolwing was also ok with 1 or 2 wickets in the Bull's first innings, and 2 wickets for 0 runs in my only over in the second innings.

I was also voted the "Man of the match" - even though we had two ladies in our team, and was presented an engraved tankard by Natahsa and a 24 bottle case of Shepherd Neame Spirtfire by Mark Butcher - Captain of Surrey County Cricket Club.

Total raised will be known soon but is very likely to exceed £5000 which is a fantastic sum of money for CHASE.

Monday 24 July 2006 6-8pm
Coaching @ Sutton CC.
Senior Colts - Under 12's (school year 7) and older. Ten 12 year olds, this session, with batting in the nets. Aiming to keep the ball down, no shots where the ball is in the air for too long!!

23 July 2006 - Salfords CC day. Cricket from 2pm
Playing invite from their Club Chairman & President Richard Harrington. 40 overs per side. A win for Richard. I contributed only 15 with the bat and 3 overs 1 for 3 with 13 off a fourth over :-)

Saturday 22 July 2006 1:30pm - Surrey Downs League Match
Headley Old Freemens v Tadworth at City of Londons Freemen's School Ashtead Park. I lost the toss, and Headley OF asked us to bat. The first 10-15 overs we were in command scoring at an average of 6 an over. Headley's more consistent bowlers then made our batsman work hard for their runs. I declared on 170 for 7 off 47 overs, not enough runs, but I did not see any point in continuing when we not scoring runs, we may as well have them to bowl if needed!!. I scored a brisk 29 - with 7 four's, sadly got out trying to push the score along more. Headley had the drier pitch and easily eclipsed our 170 by scoring 171 for 2 off 33 overs.

Saturday 22 July 2006 - 10:30-11:30am
Adult Coaching - 1 to 1 @ Tadworth C.C. Tennis ball throw downs, and then cricket ball throw downs, and finished with myself bowling. Also spent about 15mins on his bowling. More sessions will be required although Ross was given some homework to work and practise before the next session. Thanks to Ross Dodsworth for the opportunity.

Friday 21 July 2006 - 6-8pm
Coaching @ Tadworth C.C. Four youngsters - 6/7 years old.

Thursday 20 July 2006 6-7:0pm
Coaching @ Horley C.C. Sixteen colts this week, with another nets session, with eight in each. Grahame and I doing one each. By popular request will do my tennis ball batting shot tenique next week 27 July.

Wednesday 19 July 2006 6-8pm
Coaching @ Sutton CC.
Junior Colts - Under 11's (school year 6) and younger.
Four 11 year olds. In the roll on net on the square. In th spot light for all to see!!.

Session was all about batting, first a bit of cricket knowledge what are all the lines called - creases, return crease, popping crease, and blwoing crease. A ten minute batting session with the other three bowling and then a break for the bowlers as it was hot, with tennis ball throw downs to practise only 3 shots - front foot off drive, front foot on drive, and the "cut" shot (step back and across) ensuring the ball is hit with the full face of the bat - no cut / no edge.

Tuesday 18 July 2006 6:30-8:30pm
Coaching @ Nutfield Cricket Club. Five adults, again concentrated on their batting, with ten minute session and with a rest for the bowlers a five minute session with tennis balls to practise shots - front foot offside drive, front foot leg-side drive, and the "cut" (using the word cut sparingly) back foot back and across to hit the ball with the full face of the bat through gully, point, or the covers. Why the full face of the bat to avoid the edge, and therefore avoids a catching opportunity. (Next Week 25th July 2006 no nets as it is Nutfield CC Cricket Week and of course I am at the Charity 6 Side at The Farmhouse HORLEY

Monday 17 June 2006 6-8pm
Coaching @ Sutton CC.
Senior Colts - Under 12's (school year 7) and older. Sixteen colts, where bowling actions were looked at. Some suggestions were made. Close catching, high catching. And to finish a game with a real cricket ball.

Sunday 16 July 2006 - 2pm - Sunday Friendly..
Tadworth v Rotten Livers. An awesome win considering we were 47 for  and posted 208 for 7 declared, and won with me getting the last wicket.

Sunday 16 July 2006 10-12noon
Coaching @ Mynthurst CC. this one is the last week. Extended two weeks due to the inclement weather we all had in May. Once again Certificate of Attendance presentations to those that did not attend last week. But also a chance to get to know every one - with a bite to eat, drink, and chat from 12noon -1pm after the last coaching session.

Saturday 15 July 2006 - Tadworth CC v Newdigate 2pm
The Surrey Downs League Match. Won the toss and elected to allow Newdigate to bat first.  They Posted a total off 45 overs that proved too big, 264 for 7 and in reply we were 204 for 6 off 45 overs, so a winning draw for Newdigate. They should of considered declaring at 40 overs and using more of their slow bowlers to get the win, or rather to encourage us to go for a win as well - they did not, and so a draw was inevitable.

Friday 14 July 2006 6-8pm
Coaching @ Tadworth CC.
The younger colts this night. 15 in total with about 3 at least 10 years old otherwise all around 6 years of age including my own son. Started with a quick warm up, and then to the cricket trivia questions - What do those lines mean - The Creases, Popping, Bowling and Return Creases. A quick game of "Quick Runs and Safe Catching" to practise close catching to test and improve running between the stumps. Some bowling with me checking everybody's action and spending extra time with one or two. Amd then a game of "kwik" cricket. Assisted by Mike Copeland and John Ryan

Thursday 13 July 2006 - 6-7:30pm
Coaching @ Horley C.C. 16 colts this week. Fielding to start with some close and slip catching and then into the Nets for batting and bowling, where I concentrated and looking at the bowling actions of all, but then focused on a few approaches (run ups).

Wednesday 12 July 2006 - Tadworth CC Cricket Week continues..
Tadworth CC v Sutton CC - 11am start. Tadworth batted first and were 245 declared off almost 50 overs, and Sutton CC in reply held firm for a draw.

Tuesday 11 July 2006 6:30pm
Nutfield Cricket Club - A good session with up to 6 adults and one 15 year old. Just a normal net for the Nutfield CC Cricketers, but with me watching their batting and finding one or two areas for them to work on.

Monday 10 July 2006 from 11am
Horley Cricket Club - Cricket Week,
and today Monday 6 a side tournament as a warm up for the rest of the week. Playing for the Farmhouse Pub HORLEY. My Charity Team - The Farmhouse finished an honorurable third, considering the majority don't normally face a proper 5½ oz. hard ball. ( Ok there was only 3 teams in the competition, a colts team, Sat 1st Team and The Farmhouse) Rain sadly curtailed the day, meaning that my team the Farmhouse did not play their fourth match.

Sunday 9 July 2006 - Tadworth CC 1:30pm - Presidents Club Day
Two Teams Twenty Two Players from Tadworth CC, to play one match.
I was playing in the Chairman's Xi, Presidents XI opted to bat first and posted a respectable 221 off 40 overs in reply we we 222 for 4 off 39.2 overs. A win for my Chairman's Xi of which I was a player.

Sunday 9 July 2006 10-12noon
Coaching @ Mynthurst CC. 14 colts this week, with one week to go. Once again I had the oldest and four today. A quick warm up in the rain, then a nets session batting and bowling. and to finish some fielding practise backing up a throw on the stumps, and to finish some slip fielding. Toby and I then presented the Certificate of Attendance to all that attended, and hopefully we complete all next week - the last week.

Saturday 8 July 2006 2pm Surrey Downs League
Ockham CC v Tadworth CC.
Lost the toss and the match We were asked to bat which was a surprise for the Ockham CC Captain forfeited 10points straight away :-) Tadworth 146 all out, and Ockham CC won the game eventually.

Saturday 8 July 2006 10am @ Mynthurst Cricket Club
Mynthurst CC (MCC) Club Captain to sign/autograph the Certificate's of Attendance. Toby and I to present out 9th & 16th July. Any colts we miss we will have to post.

Friday 7 July 2006 6-8pm
Coaching @ Tadworth CC.
over 10's. Nine this week, and more fielding practise, close catching, high catching, run and chase, pick up and turn and throw to wicket keeper tp of stumps. Also throwing at the stumps and backing up with the long barrier. And finished with a match.

Thursday 6 July 2006 - 6-7:30pm
Coaching @ Horley C.C. 18 colts this week same format as the previous week. I continued the batting net i.e. tennis balls 10mins per player, and those that did not get a session last week were first this week.

Wednesday 5 July 2006 11:30am
Sutton CC v a Clive Quinton Xi. Sutton won the toss and batted. They declared @ 214 for 9. In reply 168 for 8, so a draw.

Tuesday 4 July 2006 - 6-8pm
Coaching @ The Farmhouse Pub HORLEY. In readiness for their charitable 6 a side Cricket Tournament v the Bull Pub also in HORLEY

Sunday 2 July 2006 2pm
Tadworth CC v Blackheath Rugby Club Old Boys CC. A close defeat but an excellent game of cricket on a Sunday. A swift 12 for me 3 boundaries off 6 balls batting no. 11 - not out though, and 2 wickets off 6 overs for 20 runs.

Sunday 2 July 2006 10-12noon
Coaching @ Mynthurst CC. The majority of the younger colts were playing a match against Albury CC. So today we had five of the older colts and just one of the younger colts. A bit of fielding for the older colts, with a batting net session, with tennis balls to aid muscle memory of shots etc i.e. front foot drive off side and leg side, back foot defensive. Cut shot watching the bat hit the full face of the bat, so no edges. Pull shot to finish.

Saturday 1st July 2006 2pm
Surrey Downs League Match - Westcott CC v Tadworth.; Lost again, but maximum batting points means we are now batting better. Just need to sort out the rest :-)

Friday 30 June 2006 6-8pm
Coaching @ Tadworth CC.
An Under 9 friendly was taking place - Tadworth v Purley. 13 colts this week all around 8/9 years old for my session. Covered batting stance, at crease, (also popping, bowling and return creases - what they are) So where to stand on the popping crease, what to ask for when you come into bat, "middle stump" or 3 etc. Also covered when running between the stumps, which is quicker and which is slower i.e. use your bat to - ssstttretch over the line ad touch the other side. Practised running between the wickets, with game - close catching circle and two batters running. then concluded with a match to put this running into practise. Assisted by Craig Stevenson.

Thursday 29 June 2006 - 6-7:30pm
Coaching @ Horley C.C. 19 colts this week, and only one coach "ME". 2 Net Sessions batting and bowling, 1 fielding session and 1 net batting - shot technique with me and tennis balls.

I won it :-)

Sunday 25 June 2006 10-12noon
Coaching @ Mynthurst CC.  15 colts this week. My session was with six of the oldest ones. My inline speed gadget was in place for some bowling speed tests, best of 3 and then some coaching and then another three. All improved to some degree. And to finish some batting coaching 10mins each.

Saturday 24 June 2006 2pm
Surrey Downs League Match : Tadworth v Claygate
Won the toss again elected to bat, and posted 197 all out. I could only manage 15 batting no.3 when a low one bowled me. Was not good with the ball so glad I have got that match out the way? Lost another match, due to lack of personnel making themselves available.

Friday 23 June 2006 6-8pm
Coaching @ Tadworth CC
my famous warm up for all colts. Then the older colts 10plus and had 10. Fielding drills, throwing at the stumps and backing up , bowling, catching close and far. With 2 breaking out for a batting 10mins concentrating on technique and shot selection with tennis balls.

Thursday 22 June 2006 - 6-7:30pm
Coaching @
Horley C.C.
18 colts so we spilt and used both nets at Horley CC, with batting technique, which ones to leave which ones to hit harder and down etc... Next week coaches permitting will concentrate on bowling, approach, action through the crease and follow through.

Tuesday 20 June 2006 - @ The Brit OVAL
England v Sri Lanka - good to be there and watch it all first hand, shame about the result

Monday 19 June 2006 6-8pm
Coaching @ Sutton CC.
Junior Colts - Under 12's (school year 7) and older.
seven 15 year olds and one 14. Quick warm up with me, and then some bowling coaching in the nets - included approach/delivery stride/ follow through/head position/shoulder rotation. A reminder about what all the white lines are called - bowling crease, popping crease and return creases. Then some batting coaching with tem bowling remembering what we had covered in the bowling session.

Sunday 18 June 2006 2pm
Tadworth CC v St Andrews CC.
Tadworth fielded first with St Andrews posting 187. Target achieved with over 3 overs left in the day. Some notable performances from Mike Hobbs 96 with the bat and 2  wickets with the ball. My bowling was good, but for no reward. Was not required to bat, shame as more overs would of been left over:-)

Sunday 18th June 2006 10-12noon
Coaching @ Mynthurst CC.
Arrived at 09:45am, Toby not there today and waited :-) 17 this week with two new faces, need a form for parents to return completed with some money I assume. Will cover this next week if they return for a second week?
Youngsters for me, as Toby not here this week. About 12 rather too many, could of done with some assistance from the watching brace of parents - not to be!! Covered how to hold a bat, and some basic fielding techniques, running picking it to your side turning and throwing. Some bowling also covered, and a match at the end to re-inforce it all. Need to do it again next week for majority. The older colts I noticed did some fielding and also nets practise batting and bowling.

Saturday 17 June 2006 2pm Surrey Downs League Match
West End Esher v Tadworth. Tadworth are due a win but West End Esher are top of the table!! - No win but a better performance with the bat played out 48 overs to 178 for 9, probbaly 40 runs short of a winning total. As proved with West End Esher achieving 179 with only 3 wickets down. They wobbled a little with 60 or  70 for 3, hence more runs with our batting. A good win for West End Esher but at least they earned the win? 2 wickets for me and 36 with the bat, so a better captains performance, even if I say so myself.

my famous warm up for all colts. Then the 15 Under8/under9's.

Coaching @
Horley C.C.
Not surprising for those that love cricket - 12 were my group so the session involved a quick warm up and then some more net practise - batting and bowling. Pointing our one or two issues that they can think about and fix in the net session or subsequent sessions. May be worth doing a session on just bowling as some of the bowling was wild and young !!

Wednesday 14 June 2006 6-8pm
Coaching @ Sutton CC.
Junior Colts - Under 11's (school year 6) and younger. 15 youngsters and match basics. A swift warm up and then a quick game "Quick Runs and Safe Catching" this was a circle of close catchers with two batters running between the wickets, this was to to show how to run and what to do with the bat in your hand to allow you to run a shorter distance. After a break we then did some fielding and finished with a game to underline running between the wickets and calling, yes not waiting etc.

Arrived at 09:30am, and waited :-)
3 colts were for me - all-around 15/16 years of old. nets batting for the trio with some members / parents assisting as bowling "machines" ( I have to say they were pretty good )- the senior bowlers of course and the young batsman. A 10 min break due to the temperature, and then some bowling basics which I did on my first session. I have to say the bowling is already better after only two sessions. batting front foot seemed to be key today - appreciated by all today batters bowlers and the coach, me :-)

Saturday 10th June 2006 2pm

who last played 20years ago!
Batting - stance (feet and head) and shot selection front foot shots (leg & off side). Back foot shots, including shots through point with back foot going back and across, using all the crease, instead of cutting (edging) the ball. Pull shots were also covered. All initially with tennis balls, and then with cricket ball throw downs, and finished with myself bowling. And concluded the session with some bowling techniques e.g. shoulder rotation through the crease and hip drive plus high arm. A good session and my thanks to Stuart Brill for the opportunity.

Newdigate v Tadworth CC -
Arvold Cup match, winning the toss Tadworth batted first and posted a good 144 off 15 eight ball overs. Newdigate closed in our total but probably lost wickets at regular times, and therefore with the last over to go they required about 24runs off 8 balls. A good win with all contributing with bat or ball. I did not bat - not required, but bowled 3 overs and 1 wicket for 27.
