9 JUNE 2009

weather allowing I will be concentrating on bowling and even using my radar / speed gadget before and after to see if there is any improvement in technique and therefore speed??

Bowling Speeds: (all in Miles an Hour - MPH)
1 2 & 3 were before coaching and 4 5 & 6 after some basic bowling coaching

  1 2 3 4 5 6 Comments
George Foley 41 38 40 34 30 40 Average MPH 40 / 35
Consistent, and George is concentrating on accuracy to start with - hence the slight slower speeds. Once his accuracy  is consistent his speed will come naturally. Bowling has improved since my first look 3 weeks ago.
Mark Johnston 52 53 59 50 56 54 Average MPH 55 / 54
Consistent, just needs to relax more and bowl consistently as he has!!
Matt Savill 51 58 50 49 46 56 Average MPH 53 / 51
Average slightly down after coaching, but consistent approach
Sam Armitage 51 54 56 53 49 45 Average MPH 54 / 49
Average slightly down after coaching, but consistent approach
Matt Bradford 38 52 53 58 50 61 Average MPH 48 / 57
A great natural action underlined by the consistent speeds ignoring the first one!!
All are seam bowlers. Session at Caterham School - 9 June 2009.

Their runs ups were restricted due to the location of the practice nets at Caterham School, so perhaps next time do this using a rolling cage instead so run ups are not restricted.

They all know their speeds now with the majority averaging 50-55 mph. It also underlines to them that if they try too hard then the speed is down - a surprise for them?

So it is not down to sheer effort it is down to their bowling action - e.g. run up, delivery and follow through are all key to bowling. All need to fine tune small issues with their action which perhaps I can fine tune in a future bowling session.

Majority need to look at the target more in their action, this will help their action with their head level and looking at the target. Will cover this and other issues on the next bowling session.
