My preferred charities and the only ones that I will make

donations to. Donations of time and money.

BLOOD.CO.UK

National Blood Service - Do Something Amazing - Give Blood
Paul's Donations:Previous Donation:Next Donation

Not a charity but a major organisation within the National Health Service (NHS) although all donations of blood in the UK are voluntary.  Most adults in the UK can donate but only four percent do.

I am one of those Blood Donors. I have donated since I was able to at the tender age of 18, but now you can donate from 17.

New blood donors are now accepted from 17 years old.

British Heart Foundation:

We only have one life so look after it. Exercise is good for you compared to no exercise it actually makes you live longer.

The British Heart Foundation's vision is of a world in which people do not die prematurely of heart disease.

Pioneering research, vital prevention activity and ensuring quality care and support for everyone living with heart disease are just a few amazing things they do.

CHASE:

CHASE supports families with life-limited children and teenagers.

Life-limited means they are not expected to live to reach the age of 19.

CHASE care network stretches throughout SW London, Surrey and Sussex. We need to raise almost 4 million pounds every year to continue supporting these families.

 LLANBERIS MOUNTAIN RESCUE:

The Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team is made up entirely of volunteers who live close to Snowdon.

Mountain guides and instructors, teachers, plumbers, doctors, park wardens, builders, nuclear engineers and business consultants - all and more can be found in the team. All are skilled and experienced mountaineers. Turning out in all weathers, day or night, 365 days a year, they share a common purpose - to help anyone who is in trouble on the hills.

The Rescue team is based in Nant Peris (the old Llanberis), a village nestled at the foot of Snowdon. Their area of operation covers Snowdon and adjacent areas.

Snowdon is the highest mountain in England & Wales standing at 3560 feet (1085metres) That is almost 54 cricket pitches!!

I have been up and down many many times - and even done the the 3 peaks challenge (Snowdon, Sca Fell and Ben Nevis) in under 24 hours. More recently only Snowdon with my son Llwyd, who first climbed it at 5 years old - with me of course.

And I am pleased to say have never had to call them, for I would like to think I am experienced enough to know when to not climb Snowdon.

Snowdon's proper name is Yr Wyddfa and 2009 see's the opening of Hafod Eryri* and awesome building in keeping with it's adjacent neighbour - Yr Wydffa - Snowdon.

*I donated a reasonable amount of money to the new build - Hafod Eryri - which cost some £8.5 million and I will be there for the official opening in June and again for a week away from Cricket2 the first week of August (2009).

If you do decide to climb Snowdon or take the train and walk down please ensure you take suitable footwear and clothing as it might be sunny in Llanberis but freezing cold and raining on the top. Some food is also a good idea and of course plenty of water

Please take all your rubbish home and dispose of appropriately.
