Paul at Lords - March 2011

Paul was at Lord's with his East Surrey Colleagues from the East Surrey Cricket Umpires and Scorers Association.

It was a "Batting with Hawkeye" session where I was batting and most of the time missing the ball and allowing it to hit my pads. This was so my Umpire Colleagues could judge an appeal for LBW and we would then check after the batting session using the Hawkeye Technology which is installed at Lords in the MCC Indoor Cricket School.

You will be pleased to here that of the LBW decisions made my Umpire Colleagues achieved 99% success.

For me it has changed my perspectives of LBW as a batsman and bowler and umpire. In short the session underlined my thoughts on the line of the ball from all perspectives - batter, bowler and umpire.

There is not many people who can say they batted for two hours at Lords!!

Paul's - ECB ACO Umpire Level 2:

Paul attended the course in March 2009 at Cranleigh School Surrey. Paul will then need to stand in a minimum of 10

matches as Umpire with two of these been assessed by an ECBACO boundary assessor

I still play so most of these matches as Umpire will be Sunday's with the occasional mid-week appointment. The minimum requirement is 10 matches over two years, but I was hoping to achieve in 2009 if I can. It does mean not playing in some Sunday matches.

2011*
- Due to the situation with My level 2 Umpire Certification I have decided not to stand in many matches as official Umpire. This is no reflection on my ability to officiate in a Cricket match at all levels it is just that during the supported practice I was advised that my matches could be any standard provided at least 20 overs per team per innings. During my professional Discussion it became clear that some league matches would be needed - not a requirement at course time or during boundary assessments.
