The Latin for Willow is SALIX.

Most Cricket Bats would be made from "White Willow - Salix Alba Caerulea".

Cricket Bat willow grow best near fresh water streams.

So why willow?

because it is light, tough, and resilient essential properties for the blade of the Cricket Bat. Cane is normally used for the handle because it is light and springy.

Did you know that Gray Nicolls harvest their own Willow - Salix Alba and Salix Caerulea. As part of their willow replenishment programme which Gray Nicolls pioneered over 50 years ago.

J S Wright as far as I know supply most bat makers in the UK*. Perhaps you could let me know if I am right? *Except Gray Nicolls

Other Sources.
Bartram Wood in the National Forest as far as I know also grow willow for the manufacture Cricket bats - perhaps you could email and let me know where this willow goes for the making of cricket bats.?
